COLLEGE STATION, Texas—Several Forensic and Investigative Sciences students received scholarships and recognized for their activities this academic year during the Department of Entomology’s special Undergraduate Recognition reception on Wednesday, May 3.
After the welcome, guest speaker Dr. Jeffery Tomberlin said a few words of encouragement to the graduating seniors during the keynote address and junior Forensic and Investigative Sciences major Tammy Starr updated everyone on the highlights from various activities the Aggie Forensic and Investigative Sciences Organization had done this past academic year.
Dr. Pete Teel then announced the scholarships and special awards during the awards portion. Forensics students that received scholarships include the following:
- Jeremy Arnold – Fowden G. and Katherine G. Maxwell Scholarship
- Brice Phillips – Paul Truman Riherd Memorial Scholarship
- Emily Parsoneault – Dr. Micky Eubanks Outstanding Faculty Scholarship
- Mya Gates – Dial and Eva Martin Memorial Scholarship
- Calli Allison- Len P. Quattrochi Memorial Scholarships
Forensics students Nicholas Richter, Mya Gates, Fatimah Bouderdaben, and Kejaun Tate were also announced as the 2017-2018 members of the Department’s Entomology Scholars Society.
The Scholars Society was developed to help current students to expand their leadership and outreach skills though the enhancement of various departmental events. Members serve as liaisons between faculty, staff, and prospective students and represent the Department by serving as hosts to prospective students, parents, and other campus visitors.
Other awards given out included Dr. Jim Woolley receiving the Outstanding Professor of the Year award while Ashleigh Faris won Outstanding Teaching Assistant for Forensics and Chloe Hawkings received the Outstanding Teaching Assistant for Entomology.
Finally, the 2017-2018 AFIS officers were announced. They include the following:

- Adriana Peterson – Treasurer
- Katie McLeod – Secretary
- Mya Gates-Historian
- Skylar Huddleston – Activities Coordinator
