Forensics Organization Helps Community during Big Event

April 7, 2017 by Rob Williams

Nine students from the Aggie Forensic and Investigative Sciences Organization spent the cool Saturday afternoon helping a local couple to clean their yard during the Big Event on March 25 at a residence in Wellborn.

The students were a part of 21,000 Aggies that were sent out in the community to work on various service projects during the largest single-day student-run service project in the country.

This year, the students signed up to help out a local resident with cleaning out a space for her grandchildren to play in the back yard. Throughout the morning, the group cleaned limbs, raked leaves and brush, and cleared out dead trees from the yard.

This was Tammy’s second year to volunteer  and said that the best part is being able to help others and meeting everyone in the community.

“It is a really cool event and great to help people out,” she said. “It’s also very neat that I get to come out here and be with the organization and work with people I know.”

Junior Mya Gates said this was her third year to be a volunteer and loved working with her fellow members with the project.

“The Big Event is fun and they have great projects,” Gates said. “It’s also a great time to be fun and productive while helping the community out,” Gates said.

Junior Abby Jones said that the Big Event was a great way to get to know people and to give back to the community.

“The Big Event is a lot of fun and I enjoy doing it,” Jones said. “It is so nice getting to know the couple and to help them make a nice area for their grandchildren.”
